The present study was performed to see the efficacy of Ease (E) a herbal preparation in the treatment of Osteoarthritis (OA), Non-specific arthritis (NSA) and in Rheumatoid arthrits (RA) in comparison with Diclofenac (D) in a double blind randomised comparative parallel design study.
Sixty adult patients of either sex were included in the study. Out of 60 patients 31 (16 E + 15 D) were OA group, 17 (9 E + 8 D) NSA and 12 (5 E + 7 D) were in RA. E or D 50 mg was prescribed one capsule thrice daily after meals for 6 months. Patients were assessed at baseline and then at 1,2,4 and at the end of 6 months of treatment.
The herbal drug has anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity as evident from the study in NSA, RA and OA. Its clinical efficacy was inferior to Diclofenac, but side-effects profile was better than diclofenac.
From this study it can be concluded that Ease can be prescribed safely for mild to moderate joint pains and inflammations.
