To assess patients views on the effects of in-patient care at the Glasgow Homoeopathic Hospital (GHH)
A questionnaire was sent to 100 sequential in-patients, 3–6 months post discharge.
Patients reported high levels of morbidity prior to admission and 80% had seen a hospital specialist. 82% rated GHH in-patient care as better or very much better than orthodox in-patient care and their overall satisfaction was extremely high. Using the Glasgow Homoeopathic Outcome Scale, 70% reported a continuing benefit (of value in daily living) at 3–6 months after discharge. Reductions were reported in the use of conventional drugs (40%), hospital services (33%), and visits to the GP (36%). 85% felt the GHH care had been crucial or very important in these improvements.
The integrative approach of the GHH, combining suitable complementary and orthodox treatments appears to have major benefits in terms of patient satisfaction, clinical outcome and NHS conventional care resources.
