CAM education at German medical schools

The Pascoe Study 2002 revealed that, although 73% of the German population use one form or another of CAM, CAM education at medical schools is inadequate or non-existent. One-third of the 36 medical schools do not offer any courses in CAM at all, others offer only one or two courses per semester. A survey among medical students at the University of Düsseldorf revealed that only 11.4% of students were familiar with the term ‘phytotherapy’. Physicians usually acquire skills in CAM through their own initiative after leaving medical school.
