Effects of herbal mixture on symptoms of stress and mood profiles in high-school girls: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

Objective

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of herbal mixture with Cyperus rotundus L. on symptoms of stress and mood state in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Materials and methods

Forty healthy high-school girls volunteered to participate and were randomly assigned to either a herbal mixture group (n = 20) or a placebo control group (n = 20). Subjects consumed the herbal mixture or placebo once a day for 3 days.

Results

Total symptoms of stress and subscales of symptoms of stress decreased significantly and mood state scores increased significantly in the herbal mixture group as compared with the control group.

Conclusion

These results suggest that the herbal mixture with Cyperus rotundus L. is beneficial in alleviating the symptoms of stress and in enhancing mood.
