Curcuma longa (turmeric) supplements contaminated with lead

In February ConsumerLab, the US group that provides independent test results and information evaluating health, wellness and nutrition products, published a report about Curcuma longa (turmeric). It tested 14 products and found that two well-known brands were contaminated with lead. The first product contained 18.7μg of lead in a daily serving – the highest amount it has ever reported. The second well-known brand was contaminated with 8.3μg of lead. Two other products contained only 11.5% and 49% of the expected compounds. A fifth product did not specify the part of the plant used – a US Food and Drug Advisory labelling requirement.
