This is a critical account of the recent history of cancer research. Devra Davis is the director of the Centre for Environmental Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. Her views are therefore strongly influenced by environmental issues which, she argues, have been grossly neglected in cancer research. Her book offers a detailed discussion of the science and the politics surrounding cancer research. It is very well written and is as gripping as a good piece of investigative journalism.

Those of us who believe that our governments have, in the past, failed to address cancer prevention systematically will find plenty to agree with Devra Davis about. This is a book that is both fascinating and thought-provoking – a very good read indeed. I recommend it to all FACT readers with a special interest in cancer.
